Zebra
Zebras have often been called the "horses of Africa."
But, unlike horses, zebras have not been successfully tamed
or trained by man. There are many different kinds of zebras
and each kind has a different set of black and white stripes.
Zebras live in large herds and feed on the grassy plains in the
south and eastern portions of Africa. They always try to stay
within 5 miles of water. Zebras have excellent eyesight, a keen sense
of smell and can run up to 40 miles per hour to escape danger.
When attacked by lions and other enemies, they use their hard,
sharp hooves to defend themselves. For fun, zebras love to take
dust and sand baths in the hot African sun.
